Fusing - Testing
The Hotline Stressometer has a light source with two polarized filters. It is
used for
testing glass compatibility. Fuse a 3/4" test strip of clear glass
and sample colours (must all be the same glass type). View each colour
between the filters, turning the top one. Any stress will be revealed as a
bright halo around the coloured chip.
Extreme stress, of course, will result
in broken glass.
The Tin Scope is a necessity when using float glass in fusing or casting
projects. The UV scope will reveal which side of the glass was floated on
molten tin during the manufacturing process. The "tin" side has a film which
impacts the design of your project.
